Synopsis: For
one man, the decision to take money over love will
haunt him forever. Barney Glasgow, a tough-as-nails
lumberjack, chops wood by day and dreams of becoming
the leader of the entire logging industry at night.
He has a sweetheart, but believes he must stay focused
on his grand ambitions. When he meets his boss's
daughter, he plans a scheme to hurry up the corporate
ladder. When he marries into his supervisor's family,
all of his career wishes come true. But the relationship
is devoid of passion. Barney begins to long for
his adolescent love. Then, in brooding middle age,
he meets the daughter of his bygone dance hall beauty
but Barney's son makes a bid for the new woman of
his father's dreams.
Shared directing credit with Howard Hawks. |
