| Synopsis: Bette
Davis Won an Academy Award®
for her portrayal of Julie, a spiteful and spirited
southern belle in pre-civil war New Orleans who
thoughtlessly spurns her fiance, and ends up losing
him to a Yankee woman. When she discovers he has
contracted the deadly "yellow jack" (yellow
fever), Julie regrets her actions and pleads with
the woman to allow her to be with her ex-lover in
his time of need. This film was meant to set Bette
Davis up for the role of Scarlet O'Hara in "Gone
with The Wind," a part she desperately hoped
to play. But it never worked out and Vivien Leigh
ended up cast as Scarlet. |
